Cory Schneider, who played parts of 13 NHL seasons as a goaltender primarily with the New Jersey Devils and Vancouver Canucks, announced his retirement from the league on Tuesday.

Schneider, 37, last played in the NHL during the 2021-22 campaign and was not signed to a team ahead of the new season.

"I'm at peace with it," Schneider told the Salem News in his native Massachusetts. "I'll miss my teammates and the intensity of playing, but it's the right time for me."

Former NHL players Dustin Brown and Jamie Langenbrunner highlight the 2023 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame class unveiled Friday by USA Hockey.

Longtime executive Brian Burke, women's star Katie King Crowley and official Brian Murphy also are being inducted into the hall at a ceremony Dec. 6 in Boston.

Hall of Fame defenseman Chris Chelios will have his No. 7 jersey retired by the Chicago Blackhawks in a pregame ceremony at the United Center on Feb. 25, 2024, it was announced Thursday night.

The news was revealed during a Pearl Jam concert at United Center. Chelios, who is a good friend of the band's frontman, Eddie Vedder, was brought on stage for the surprise announcement.

Former first-round pick Michael Del Zotto retired Wednesday after 13 seasons in the NHL, including his first five with the New York Rangers.

Del Zotto, 33, appeared in 26 games in 2021-22 for the Ottawa Senators, his eighth and final team. He did not play last season.

Del Zotto made the retirement announcement on social media.
